Hanif Yusuf resigned then, and he is finally gone.
Yousuf is in real trouble. He said he is never leaving the government and he believed in President Dissanayake. Our report never said that he will leave the government. Please refer to our two previous reports about the Yousuf Saga.
We confirm that Hanif resigned from the position of Western Province Governor. We reported that President Dissanayake offered him a different position, so that it will be perceived as he is not leaving the government.
His private secretary and media contacts asked many journalists including print media to carry a news saying our report was fake.
Journalists asked for official communication instead of verbal gossip so the news can be carried. Daily Mirror editor, Jamila Hussein, was one editor who refused to publish a report without an official communication.
Hanif never wanted to issue an official communication. He was pressured. Then came the social media post with his picture saying he is not leaving the government. It was not enough for the public. They demanded an official communication. Hanif was pressured again by the top. Hanif sent the same wordings of the social media post as a Twitter message.
Again, we stand by our report. Hanif Yousuf, actually resigned from the position of the Governorship of the Western Province and the President tried his level best to keep him on the job. When it was futile, the President wanted him to take up a role on international relationships for business. We reported these facts.
Hanif had to betray himself. We never reported he was leaving the government.
